Staying home during quarantine is not always that bad, since we have more spare time than ever! We decided to bake an Air Fryer apple pie and it turned out a-ma-zing. Baking a pie is also quite a relaxing activity and it rewards you with an incredible, home-made treat! Let’s get started.

This recipe is for a pie of ∅ 12 cm, but you can just double the ingredients for a normal sized pie.

If you like, you can add some raisins or almonds to the dough. Yum!

Prep Time 30 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour

Ingredients

Dough

  • 150 g flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 85 g caster sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 8 g vanilla-flavoured sugar
  • 1 egg

Filling

  • 2 apples (cut into cubes)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • 50 g cornstarch
  • A dash of breadcrumbs
  • Optional: 20 g raisins or 20 g almonds

Requirements

  • Spring form (∅ 12 cm)
  • Air Fryer
  • Mixing bowl

Instructions

  1. Start off by preparing the apples: cut them in small cubes. With or without the skin, depends on your preferences.
  2. Put the flour, caster sugar, butter (in pieces), salt and vanilla sugar together in a bowl and add ¾ of the egg.
  3. Knead until the dough is a smooth ball and no longer sticks to the bowl. Take your time for this part. If your dough is too dry, add more butter. If it’s too moist, add some flour.
  4. Withhold ¼ of the dough and squeeze ½ part of the remaining dough in even thickness on the bottom of the spring form.
  5. From the remaining ¼ part of the dough, make the edge of the cake (about 4 cm high).
  6. Dust the counter with flour and make small rolls (½ cm thick) of the withheld dough to place over the filling later. Leave the dough in a cool place while you continue to the next step.
  7. Place the lemon juice and apple cubes in a bowl. Mix briefly. Then add sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch (or custard powder) and the optional ingredients.
  8. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs out over the bottom of your pie and add the apple mixture.
  9. Place the dough rolls over the filling. Brush the top with the rest of the egg.
  10. Now put your pie in the Air Fryer for 30 minutes at 160 ℃.
  11. After the specified baking time, let the Air Fryer apple pie cool completely until the edge feels firm. Carefully remove the spring form and enjoy the amazing taste!

Notes

  • If your dough is too dry: add butter. If it’s too moist: add flour.
  • It doesn’t matter how many rolls you put on top of the filling, since this does not influence the taste of your pie. But if you are feeling creative: check our Pinterest board for the prettiest patterns to make.
